Travel Salzburg Guide
Home of Mozart, Salzburg celebrates its musical heritage with places such as the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum, a library, Mozart museum, music school and concert hall. Mozart’s residence is also open for tours as well as Mozart’s Birthplace, a museum housing his violin, piano and other personal effects. The city even has its own chocolate confection honoring Mozart, known as the Mozartkugeln.
Of course, Salzburg wasn’t made famous by Mozart alone. The Sound of Music made the scenes of Salzburg familiar around the world. Although most of the movie was filmed on a Hollywood set, tours of the sites shown in the movie are available.
A trip to Salzburg wouldn’t be complete without a stop at the fairytale-like Mirabell Palace, the famous Marionette Theatre, the Salzburg Cathedral and Cathedral Square, Hellbrunn Palace and Fountains and Getreidegasse, a world-famous shopping lane. Salzburg is also the gateway to many wonderful expeditions such as the nearby lake district, ice caves, salt mines and Bavarian mountains.
