Beaches Croatia Guide Best Beaches in Croatia
With thousands of miles of stunning Adriatic Coastline and over 1,000 islands; Croatia makes for an excellent beach holiday destination. Just a short plane trip from London; Croatian cities such as Split and Zagreb provide relatively easy access to Croatia's many beach resorts. The weather on the Croatian Coast is hot and almost tropical in the summer; with warm nights and humid air. In the winter, Croatia's beaches are still accessible with a mild climate and temperatures rarely dropping below 10 degrees Celsius.
The most beautiful and isolated of Croatia's beaches can be found on its many islands in the Adriatic Sea. There are nearly 2,000 islands off of the coast of Croatia, though most are tiny and uninhabitable, there are still many which are accessible by day and almost 20 which include tourist resorts.
Up until recently, these islands were the private summer residence of President Tito and his invited guests who have included Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton and Sophia Loren. In the early 1980s, these islands were declared a National Park and were subsequently open to the public. There is a safari park and several Roman ruins on the islands, though only a handful of hotels. There is a daily ferry from Fazana to Veliki Brijuni.
The island of Brac is one of the larger Croatian islands, 150 square miles. This sunny island is a famous exporter of Brac stone (from which the White House was constructed). This island is lush in vegetation and produces excellent figs, apricots, olive oil, nectarines and wine grapes. This is one of the most popular Croatian islands for tourism, and hotels, restaurants and nightclubs can be found here in abundance. Ferries leave each hour from Split.
The town of Biograd was once a home base for Croatian kings. This quaint town sits on a peninsula which spreads into the Pasman channel which is sprinkled with islands. This town is home to what are believed to be Croatia's best beaches. Drazica beach is Biograd's most popular beach and is only a 10 minute walk from the city center. Pebbly and surrounded with lush vegetation, this beach has all the necessary facilities including rental equipment for a number of water sports. Soline Beach is located nearby Drazica in a small and isolated cove which allows camping. The less crowded Kumenat beach is small and pebbly with its own bar; walk a little further to find the nudist beach at Crvena Luka.
Croatia's beaches are known for their potential for romance. Because so many Croatian beaches are set inside of isolated inlets, accessible only by ferry. Romantic travelers can find villas and lodges on lonely beaches where they can feel like the last two people in the world. Nudists have found a comfortable home on Croatia's coast as nude bathing is safe and acceptable here. Whatever your preference; Croatia has a beautiful, unspoiled and virtually undiscovered coastline with something to offer travelers year round.
