Weather Cyprus Guide
Cyprus's weather offers visitors a long summer season that starts out strong in May and runs for nearly six months before breathing its last gasp in October. While it lasts, it supplies thousands of visitors with fun in the sun along Cyprus's many beaches. Slipping into sea water without a hint of a chill is an experience not be missed, and once experienced, sure to be repeated.
A traveler might easily float through the summer months and at autumn's return find they cannot recall a moment spent on dry land. Just ask the bronzed bathing beauties who lounge along the coasts of Cyprus, soaking in the healthy weather. Most cities on Cyprus don't often crack 30 degrees Celsius, which means that the island offers that rarest of commodities: just right hot weather. But for the real sun dogs out there, during the peak summer season some 40 degree days will be coming your way.
Humidity is rarely the problem it can be in other places that share latitude lines with Cyprus. The weather in Cyprus is very rarely wet, with the island pulling in on average less than half a meter of rain a year, primarily confined to winter months. This means that tourists can settle back into their beach chairs along Cyprus's expansive coastline, without fear of being rained out.
Cyprus enjoys very pleasant spring and autumn weather, making the island an excellent choice for shoulder season travel. Arriving nearer to the summer will ensure some days of excellent beach weather, although travelers may want to take advantage of the warm, gently breezy weather to ramble through some invigorating walks further inland. For a real adventure, trek out of a vineyard village into the welcoming foothills. Take in ancient structures, starry nights, and breathe in the cool night air while you rest for the next day's hike.
When winter does roll around, those not native to Cyprus may barely notice. The winter weather in Cyprus closely resembles a typical French or German spring. A rainy day with genuine chill (possibly ten degrees Celsius!) will be followed by a mild day with plenty of sunshine. While the northern regions may drop down to seven degrees Celsius, the south still offers refuge from the cold. But many travelers go the other extreme, leaning into the cold and into the curves as they whoosh down Cyprus's mountain skiing slopes. Cyprus has enough snow for nearly two months of good skiing every year, and offers cozy accommodation to travelers. When the snow melts, the fun doesn't have to stop--many tourists leave the ski slopes for the pleasures of wine country.
