Travel Cannes Guide
While best known for its yearly film festival, Cannes was a popular resort town long before the festival's existence. Located on the Mediterranean in the French Riviera; this upscale vacation spot offers luxury resorts, museums, beaches and year-round festivals. Many wealthy tourists visit Cannes to shop, party or relax and maybe take in a movie or two.
Whether you come during the festival, or in the off season, you cannot visit Cannes without visiting the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, the building in which the festival is held. Built specifically to accommodate the festival in the 1940’s, the building has been re-build several times in order to accommodate the festival's growing popularity. Now staggeringly large and ornate, the building hosts events year-round; there is sure to be something of interest happening there during your visit.
Because of Cannes' classy local on the Riviera, it is no stranger to the local elite. Upscale shopping is available on La Croisette; the most famous of Cannes' shopping districts, as well as throughout the city and the rues d'Antibes and Meynadier. Stores such as Gucci, Lacroix, Armani, and the most expensive models of everyday goods can be found in Cannes; making it an ideal place to spend a lot of money.
The Cannes Castle has been converted into an art museum. Visitors there can take a glimpse of some of France's great original artworks, as well as climb the castle tour for a view of the entire city. Shopping aside, no visit to a French city is complete without a trip to the best local art museum and for Cannes, this is it.
Film buff or no; Cannes is an ideal luxury vacation spot for those who want to be pampered. Quality accommodation is easy to find and the scenery, sites, food, fun and shopping are all top of the line.
