French Culture Travel Guide France
Envied throughout the world, the French seem to have it all and are, naturally, hated for it. The longest living people in history are nearly always French. The French seem to get away with everything; smoking, drinking and eating rich, buttery food all while living healthily to the ripe old age of 122.
The French are perhaps best known for their cuisine. During the 1980’s, French restaurants popped up all over the world, and became the international symbol of luxury. Consisting of flaky-crusts, cream sauces, strong cheeses, duck livers, veal, garlic, crusty breads and a lot of butter; French cuisine is liked around the world.
Not only do the French cook delicious food; they enjoy delicious food. The French eat a light breakfast, usually consisting of coffee and bread or a croissant. Lunch is held late in the afternoon and dinner is late at night, usually at 9 or 10 o'clock. Dinner consists of several courses and is enjoyed over many hours. All French people enjoy wine with their meals, and usually begin drinking wine at a very young age.
It is believed to be the low-stress lifestyle of the French which keeps them so healthy. Slowly eaten meals of slow-cooked foods increase satisfaction and digestion. The early introduction to wine encourages moderation in drinking. In fact, moderation may be an all-around skill enjoyed by the French which could be learned by many others.
The French enjoy their leisure, and have a culture of short work weeks. Known for its worker-friendly attitude (most likely beginning with the French Revolution), the French are adamant about their paid vacations, frequent holidays and long lunches. Another reason they are such a happy group of people.
It's no wonder the world envies the French; they do everything with style, eat, dress, smoke and even work. They enjoy every minute spent in their beautiful country and all while speaking one of the world's most beautiful languages...lucky frogs.
