St. Tropez is a sea side resort located in the southeast of France, on the French Riviera.  This town is rich for its history and its past. St. Tropez is popular among tourists but it is no longer an exclusive site for the rich and the famous. The appearance of the town resembles that of a medieval one and it is characterized by terrace cafés facing the blue water bay, adorned with rows of yachts.   There is a Tourist Office whose staff will provide you with the information you need.

 

The buildings are pictorial just the as the streets and at the many shops you can buy souvenirs and taste the local cuisine at some of the restaurants. This resort is visited by some film stars but they  prefer to settle in the private areas located along the coast in order to avoid being caught by the public eye.

 

There is a legend about origin of the name of Saint Tropez. According to it, the town was named after Tropes, a martyr who was beheaded because he did not want to renounce to his faith.

 

Every year there is a historical and religious celebration known as the Bravades in honor of the Patron Saint and their ancestors. In the beginning, there was just a procession but nowadays it has turned into a real festival. Each year in May, the bust of the Patron Saint is transported around the city. This celebration takes place between 16th and 18th May.

 

Most of the beaches in St. Tropez are far from the center and you will need transportation to get there. Nearby beaches include Les Graniers, Lei Salins, Cannesbiers and Golfe Azur. The best beaches here are situated along the Bay of Pampelone in the south of the town and east of Ramtuelle. Beaches here has their own huts and tanning areas either public or private. Some of these beaches are really fashionable and others are calmer and excellent places for relaxing. Water sport fans can get great opportunities here to practice windsurfing, sailing, canoeing and some motorized sports such as jet bikes, water skiing, etc.
