Travel Sainte Maxime Guide
Sainte Maxime is a seaside town situated in the Mediterranean in the Gulf of St Tropez, 5 km from St Tropez. The population of the town is largely native and every summer it increases due to the great quantity of tourist that visit the town in that season.
The location of the town is privileged, the weather is wonderful, the Maures Montains serve for protection against the wind, the beaches are covered in white sand and there are great areas for walking and hiking. The best beaches are to the west of the town for example, La Nartelle but in the center the beaches are beautiful too. On the way to St. Maxime the beaches are really attractive for instance, La Croisette Beach. The center of the town is prepared for tourists and it provides visitors with accommodation and dining places. In the town you can go shopping to small marketplaces or you can opt for shopping at the large modern shopping centers.
You can get to Sainte Maxime by different means. Many choose getting there by road taking the RD25 from Le Muy, which goes across the Maures Hills . During the night, the road is calm and the way is signaled by some houses standing on the sides of the road. The other alternative is reaching the town by the coast road from Les Issambres. There is a daily bus service between St Maxime and St Raphael. You can get by train to the railway station in St.Raphael and then take a bus to St. Maxime. Boats services are also available from the town to nearby locations.
For sports lovers, the town offers the possibility of practicing a wide range of sportive activities. You can go swimming, sailing , scuba diving and water skiing. The mountains are an excellent place for walking, hiking, biking and horse riding. Hand Gliding and paragliding are also available in the area. You can also practice tennis and golf. Cycling is another option since there is a cycling path along the coast and the road.
In Sainte Maxime there are many events and activities for the tourists to enjoy. In honor to the Patron Saint of the town there is a celebration known as the “Bravades” which takes place every 15th May. In October, there is the Autumn Festival which is held in to pay homage to a celebrity from the art world.
