Travel Chania Crete Guide

Chania is the quaint Venetian town on the island of Crete. Though the town is not located directly behind the main harbor, it can be reached easily by taxi or bus and is the center of all activity on Crete. Known for its well-preserved Venetian-style architecture, you can walk the streets of Crete and feel like you are on a journey through time.

The best place to stay in Crete is in one of the hotels overlooking the water. Because this is the most popular area of the city, things may get a little noisy at night; but being in the center of activity in Crete may be well worth the sacrifice. If you do not mind the long walk to the beach, you may appreciate the views from rooms on the hillside at the back of town.

During the daytime, there are few real activities in the Chania on Crete. One can stroll the narrow streets, shop for local crafts and lounge on the beach or at a table at a beach-side café. For visitors to Crete, it is highly recommended that a car or motorbike be rented so that the remainder of the island can be explored during the long, lazy Crete days. Short distances from the town visitors will find ancient ruins, natural parks and isolated beaches, all well-worth the trip.

But it’s really the nightlife in Chania that everyone is waiting for as they lounge around the quiet town all day. Within the town it is not hard to find an all night dance club or bar as the music and lights can be spotted from blocks away. The Splendid Dance club is a popular club, as is the Nota Bene- the oldest bar in Crete. A small ways outside of town, the larger beach resorts have their own brand of water-front nightlife.

If visiting Crete, you will most likely be staying in Chania and you will not be disappointed with its quiet winding streets, cute shops, good food, great location and wild nights.
