Beaches Ios Guide

The Greek island of Ios has some of the most consistently beautiful and swim-able beaches of Greece. Though widely known as a party place, some of the beaches in Ios are beautifully secluded, though most are host to all night parties throughout the summer holiday season.

During the day, the beaches of Ios are family-friendly and quaintly lively. Snack shops, water-front restaurants, paddle boat rentals, paragliding and other water sports are available on these lovely, safe beaches. The soft sand and relatively still, shallow water makes for a relaxing yet fun beach experience for travelers of all ages.

Ios' longest and most popular beach is Milopota. This beach is packed with a diverse group of people; young and old from around the world. It is renowned to be a meeting place and cultural exchange. The bustling local cafés are a great place to enjoy some strong Greek coffee and talk world politics, or perhaps some ouzo accompanied by a discussion of Baywatch. The beach itself is host to a wide array of water sports and activities such as windsurfing, scuba diving, jet skis and water-skiing. Of course, Milopeta turns into an all-out party at nightfall, and the festivities continue until day break.

For a quieter beach experience, travel to the eastern end of the island for a trip to Kalamos beach. Beautiful Kalamos beach is often deserted and may be hard to find. Ask your hotel concierge or a local for directions. The clear blue water of this hidden cove is picture-perfect and though, without most beach amenities, Kalamos is a pleasure for its pure beauty and peace. On the southern end of the island, Papas beach is accessible only by boat and lies in a serene cove; a lover's paradise.

It is no great challenge to find the perfect beach on Ios. For those looking for a party, one need not venture more than a few meters from town for a lively atmosphere in a beautiful location. For those who wish to find a beach all to themselves, they need only drive up or down the coast for a few kilometers, even in summertime.
Ios truly has the best of both worlds for beach holiday-makers, good fun for the whole family.
