Travel Luxembourg Guide

Luxembourg is a tiny country which borders Belgium, France and Germany. Luxembourg has the highest per capita income in the world, and is run by a Constitutional Monarchy; the only "Grand Duchy" in the world. Because of its great wealth and location, Luxembourg is home to many luxury hotels, resorts, spas and restaurants. It is the ideal spot for the high-end traveler, and also has much to offer in the way of site-seeing.

Much of the beautiful city of Luxembourg has, itself, been named UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The "Wenzel" walk through the city will bring you to the red sand stone castle bridge, built in 1735; the ancient Church of St. Ulric, archaeological crypt of the Bock Promontory and in Jacob Tower.

The enchanting 11th Century Vianden Castle sits majestically on the river front and is surrounded by the charming town of Vianden and packed with stunning tapestries, a large collection of ancient weapons and artwork. Vianden is home to the Victor Hugo house and museum, where the writer lived during his exile. The Medieval town of Vianden is filled with ancient buildings, winding alleys and Gothic churches and is worth at least a day's visit.

Luxembourg is well-known for its high quality wine; especially dry white wines from the Moselle Valley. Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir and Reisling all come from this gorgeous green valley. Be sure to order a bottle of local white wine when dining at one of Luxembourg's many fine restaurants. Luxembourg has the highest ratio of Michelin-star restaurants in the world; all of which serve up fantastic, locally-inspired cuisine such as Wild Boar and Ardennes Ham.

For shoppers, there is no better place than Luxembourg to stock up on fine china. Villeroy and Boch is a world-famous producer of fine china, and at its headquarters in Luxembourg you will find the stunning work of 250 years of fine craftsmanship. The Old City in Luxembourg is also an excellent place to pick up designer European clothes, fine art and hand-crafted jewelry.

Luxembourg is an excellent destination for nature lovers. The region of the country referred to as "Little Switzerland" is crossed over by endlessly breathtaking hiking trails, ranging from simple strolls to challenging rock-climbs. The Ardennes region is popular with mountain bikers around the world, as it offers ample biking trails of differing levels of intensity.

For those who wish to travel in high style, Luxembourg has every classy accommodation available; from luxury spas to casinos to 12 star restaurants. For the more casual traveler, Luxembourg has great hiking, camping and all-around site-seeing. There is something for everyone in the unique country of Luxembourg.
