Luxembourg Airport Guide
Luxembourg's official airport, the Findel Airport, is located 5 km to the Northeast of Luxembourg City. The airport is relatively small, and was made up of merely a grassy field and a wooden tower until the mid- 1950’s. During the 1930’s, small, private planes would land and take off from the current location. In the late 1930’s, the Government of Luxembourg sponsored an official airport at Findel, but construction was delayed until after the war.
The Luxembourg airport is easily accessible from the city by city bus number 16 leaves from the city center every 15-20 minutes throughout the day. The journey takes 25 minutes and costs 1.50 Euros. Alternative routes to the airport include a chartered airporter bus which runs only if there are adequate reservations and costs about 12 Euros round-trip.
Though a small airport, Findel has daily flights to major European cities, though few direct flights outside of Europe. The airport also accommodates a similar list of daily incoming flights from major European cities. Most of the flights are made by Luxair, Luxembourg's only airline.
There are rental cars available at the airport including Avis, Budget, Eurocar and Hertz, and taxis awaiting incoming flights. There are no airport-specific hotels as the airport is so close to the city itself.
