Amsterdam Getting There Guide
Access to Amsterdam is possible by boat, car, bus, train and plane. Of course the chosen means of transport depends mainly on the point of departure.
Although there are many international airlines that have flights to Amsterdam, it would be more convenient to travel to a neighboring city and then access to your destination by cheaper means of transport such as trains or buses. The city of Amsterdam is linked to many European cities by long-distance buses and London is one of them. Bus services are cheaper than trains.
Central is Amsterdam’s main train station and it offers passengers well-organized timetables to different part of the country and nearby countries. If you want to go to England from Amsterdam, there are train ferry services that are available.
The most important airport in Amsterdam is Schipol. It is considered to be one of the most active airports in the world. It offers passengers numerous facilities within the reach. You can get to the airport and from it by taxi or by train. The airport has its own taxi services. There are trains from Central Station every 15 minutes that will get you to the airport in about 20 minutes.
Traveling by car is another option, but it is quite discouraging since the streets are narrow and you will have to pay dear parking taxes. There are some parking places where you can leave your car at not so high rates. Nevertheless, you need to be careful about parking your car in the outskirts of the city because you will probably find your car damaged. On the other hand, the country possesses an important highway network which includes two-lane highways. It is a good choice if you want to enjoy Amsterdam’s landscape. The main road is A10 which surround the city and it is connected to most highways.
Amsterdam’s port is a busy one and it is one of the most important cruise ship harbors in Europe. “Amsterdam cruise” offers cruise ship services and the center of all is at Oostelijke Handelskade terminal which has restaurants, bars and provide passengers with automatic teller machine service. There is another new terminal called Felison which is new and was opened in 2003. There are also daily ferry services from London to Amsterdam operated by Stena line.
