Travel Faro Guide
Faro is the capital and administrative center of the district of Algarve. It is located on the southern angle of Portugal. It is the entrance to the most important resorts of the area but the city itself has tourist attractions. Faro houses a great number of monuments such as Cathedral, Nossa Senhora da Assuncão Convent and São Francisco Church. In the city you can also visit Arab and Roman ruins.
There are many places to visit in the surrounding areas of the city. One of the principal attractions is the beach for instance. There are different islands where tourist can go to enjoy the sun, the sea and the sand.
Faro Island is connected to the continent by a road. There are beach houses, restaurant and other kinds of services prepared for tourists.
Barreta Island is a peaceful and quite place mainly because ferries do not reach the area on a regular basis. You can go to the island on your own if you have your own boat or you can hire one.
On Farol island there is only sand to enjoy. On the island of Culatra there is family environment and there is a vast extension of sand. In the past this was a fishing village and this activity is still being carried out. There are regular boat services from Faro to the island of Farol and Culatra.

Estoi is an old village located in Algarve and it is characterized by a traditional atmosphere that is still present in its buildings and streets.
The Chapel of the bones, which was finished in 1816, was built by the Camelite monks. This chapel is made out of real monk bones in order to shock people and make them think about their own humanity.
You can also visit the museums and churches of the town where you can catch a glimpse of the past.
