Travel Lisbon Guide

Lisbon is the capital of Portugal and it is known as the city of seven hills. It is located in south-western Europe. At north it borders on Spain and at east it is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. This city is very rich in culture, history and social life.

Thanks to the city location it is possible to reach Lisbon from different parts of the world. It is connected to many cities in Europe and North-America by air. The most important airlines are TAP (Tap Air Portugal), PGA (Portugália Airlines) and Air Luxor.

You can also access Lisbon by road through Spain. If you go by car you can enter at Valenca do Minho ( in the north), Guarda ( in the east), Badajoz ( in the south east) or Villareal ( in the southern coast). Bus services are also available and they are really cheap. There are rail services that connect most cities in Portugal to Lisbon or Portugal. There are two stations Santa Apolónia Station and the newest Station Gare do Oriente.

The climate in Lisbon is mild and there are no extreme temperatures. It is affected by the Gulf Stream, summers are moderate and dry and winters are short and tender.

Places to visit:

Castle of St. George

It is located on the one of Lisbon’s seven Hills. You can visit the castle and see its towers, gardens and presentations. If you go there in summer time you can enjoy the festivals that are celebrated there. The main attraction is the panoramic view of the city from here.

Quarters

Lisbon’s quarters are located in the city center. They keep hold of buildings of Muslin and Medieval origin. The main features of these districts are its narrow streets, its traditional houses, its balconies and above all warm and hospitable environment. You can travel from one quarter to the other by tram.

The Alfama is one of Lisbon’s oldest quarters and this is the district where the Castle of St. George is located. Next to this district are the old quarters of Castelo and Mouraria.

Another district is the Barrio Alto which is characterized by its architecture, its bars and restaurants. This district is a fashionable place for nightlife meetings. One of the most elegant districts is the Chiado and the most active one is Baixa/Rua Augusta. The latter is a very popular shopping quarter.
