Discovering Spain: From Barcelona to Madrid

Between the capital of Spain and the capital of Catalonia there has been always a battle for tourists. Barcelona is twice the size smaller than Madrid , but many people claim that this city is more interesting. Why don’t you visit during your next holiday these two cities in order to decide if you prefer the Mediterranean atmosphere of the pearl of Catalonia or the lively and modern Madrid ?

Year after year Barcelona receives a place in the top 10 cities of Europe or top 10 cities you have to visit, which are published by many web pages and travellers magazines. The reasons are: its marvellous location on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, it is situated close to the great beaches of Costa Brava and the Montserrat Mountains and its incredible architecture. The biggest miracles are considered buildings of Antoni Gaudi which look like they are taken from fairy tales, but also the gothic district and the old part of the city are worth seeing. If you decide to visit the city, it is worth to rent one of Barcelona apartments at least for four days.

From Barcelona you can go by train, plane or bus to Madrid . Sometimes you can find really cheap offers with cheap airlines like Ryanair that can cost you up to only 20 euros. Relatively the most expensive option will be to travel by train.

Madrid is completely different from Barcelona . That is why it is worth seeing both cities during the same trip. It will let you realize how the Spanish culture differs from region to region; that it is not true that you can find throughout the whole country flamenco, beaches and paella, that every part has its unique character and that people even speak with different languages.

In Madrid , there are many houses that are extremely big and splendorous. You can notice at once that you are in the capital. In the centre you can visit all the important places like museums, parks, gardens, markets, the cathedral and palace, but if you decide to leave from the main street, you can find yourself in some alternative neighbourhood and discover a completely different Madrid than the one described in guidebooks. You should look for Madrid apartments in the area like that (for example La Latina or Chueca), where you can indulge yourself in authentic tapas bars and spend night time in the discos, where inhabitants of the city go, not only tourists.

During your discovery of Spain you can also visit other regions of this extremely interesting country. I can assure that they are different than the ones you already know.
