Geneva is located between the Alps and the Jura mountains at the southwestern extreme of Lac Léman ( Lake Geneva ), which is the largest lake in Switzerland . This city is the second most populated in the country and it is the capital of the Canton of Geneva. The city is crossed by two rivers: the Rhône and the Arve.

Although the size of Geneva is considerably small when compared to a metropolitan area, it is beyond doubt an international city. It is a very important banking centre and it has a main role in the production of jewelry, watches, food, and technical tools. All this turns the city into a dear site to live or visit but at the same time this place has many attractions to offer tourists such as the Old Town , some museums, etc.

Geneva is characterized by being clean and well-organized. The public transport scheme, as well as other town facilities, is really efficient and competent. Traveling to Geneva is a real pleasure.

The climate in Geneva is generally cool due to its altitude which is above 1200 feet above the sea. The average temperature in winter is of 10 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius in summer. So if you are planning to travel to this city make sure you pack the right clothing.

You can get to the city of Geneva by train, plane, car, bus, and boat. The principal train station is the Gare de Cornavin. Its position is central and it also works with the French rail system. The station offers many facilities for the tourist such as tourist information and bike rental among others. International bus services arrive at the Gare Routière station. It would be very romantic to get to the city by boat. There are different companies that offer boat services to the city.

The position of Geneva acts as a deterrent for those who want to get to the city by car. One the  obstacles is that the city is bounded on all its borders by France . Then, the problem of parking in the city can turn your stay into a bad experience.  So it is better to park your car on the outskirts of the city or you can also park your car for a longer period at car parks. Car can be parked at the street but remember that parking here is metered.

There are some attractions that are a must if you go to Geneva. Below there is just a brief comment on some of them.

Maison Tavel is considered to be the oldest house in the city. The house has undergone many changes and since 1986 it serves as a museum. There you can see an exhibition of items representing the lives of the  inhabitants of Geneva.

Le Jet D’Eau is a landmark in Geneva. It is a fountain that gushes its water very high at about 138 meters. 

Jardin Anglais is a park full of flowers,  adorned with fountains and statues. Here you can see the well-known clock made of flowers.

Musee de l’Horlogerie is a museum that displays a collection of different kinds of clocks, timepieces, sundials and watches from different periods.
