Travel Eastern Europe European Guide
One by one the countries of Eastern Europe are joining the European Union. While obviously unable to develop their tourist industries under Communist rule, these countries are slow to be discovered by the rest of the world. The beauty and character of these Eastern European countries is probably Europe's best kept secrets and these hidden gems are only now gaining attention for their unspoiled beauty, character and unique culture.
While Romania's capital city, Bucharest, has a long way to before developing a tourist economy; its countryside has recently become a hot spot for Hollywood. Romania's picturesque mountainsides, woods and fields have become the backdrop for many recent movies. While Transylvania does not sound like a vacation spot to most, this beautiful Hungarian border county is like a step back in time. Visit local castles in mist-covered mountains and dine ancient and cavernous buildings in the old city of Brasov.
The city of Prague, Czech Republic, has only recently made the common tour of popular European capitals. Though only a short train ride from Germany, this city remained un-touched during World War II. Intricately and carefully built, this city is one of Europe's best-preserved. Cobblestone streets, original stained glass windows by Mucha and a beautifully ornate bridge are just a few of the features which make Prague one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Few people think of the beach when they hear "Albania" but, in fact, Albania is home to crystal clear blue water and many cozy beach resorts. Albania's coast line has been an inexpensive summer getaway for Eastern Europeans for years, as has Poland. While the summer season here is short, the locals know how to take advantage of the temporary blessing of hot, sunny days and the beaches are bustling with pale children and vendors of all sorts (of sausages).
The days of "Europe on $5 a Day" are long gone and with the introduction of the European Union, you may find yourself unable to get by in most of Western Europe's capitals on less than $100 day. It is no wonder, then, that many European travelers are stretching their tentacles into the unexplored and affordable regions of Eastern Europe. While the food and public services are still in need of work, the natural beauty and unique culture make Eastern Europe well worth traveling to.
